Community Involvement
Tarheel Lumber Company participates with many local community programs, donating time, building materials and funds. We have consistently supported area church programs for youth and needy, we participate in the building of Habitat homes by supplying materials and people. We also donate materials to the Habitat outlet stores. We have always supported Fifth Street Ministries, United Way, Special Olympics, and the Balloon Rally and many others that individual employees and stockholders support.
One of the most significant community involvement for Tarheel Lumber Company was purchasing the old Statesville Chair Co. property (9+ acres at the corner of Monroe & Wall Street) which was an eyesore to the community. We turned this into a new million-dollar facility to supply building materials to the professional contractor in our area. This has greatly improved the local area and has led to other growth in this area. We are continuing to make improvements to this location and we expect to eventually manufacture products for use in our industry.
Tarheel Lumber Company management has served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Building Material Dealers Association headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have also served on the SBMA Education Committee and as chairmen of the Leaders Group of SBMA, which trains and assists new managers in the building material industry. Many of our stockholders serve on local company boards, churches, councils, etc.
